Summary
- GMP-compliant handling of temperature-sensitive, high-value products
In the scope of this successfully implemented partnership, Kuehne+Nagel manages the warehousing activities for GSK’s sensitive high-value products in Anagni, Italy. This includes inbound, outbound and storage activities, as well as the transport to GSK’s facility in Parma with a dedicated shuttle service.
In its shared warehouse in Anagni (FR), Kuehne+Nagel provides a state-of-the-art pharma area for storage and GMP-compliant handling of pharma products. It has temperature-controlled zones (15°c to 25°c) with cold storage (2°C up to 8°C) and freeze storage (-25°C up to -45°C) capabilities.
The special requirements of pharma products
Due to their fragility (API, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient), pharma products need to be handled in a safe and timely manner and require specific visibility and regulatory compliance, as well as high-level cold chain standards.
For GSK, Kuehne+Nagel dedicated a highly secured area of 500sqm which can store products at -40°C. All handling processes including receiving, put-away and storage, picking and packing and shipping, are managed by Kuehne+Nagel’s Warehouse Management System Swiftlog.
Ruggero Poli, Managing Director of Kuehne+Nagel Italy, says:
We are delighted about this agreement with GSK in Italy. This new contract highlights our commitment to the pharma and healthcare industry by enabling seamless supply chain coverage and underlines our continuous improvement to expand our multi-modal and temperature-controlled forwarding and warehousing services worldwide.”
Giuseppe Martinelli, Supply Chain Operation Director at GSK Parma Site, explains why — in their search for a partner that can provide resilient supply chain solutions — they selected Kuehne+Nagel:
GSK Parma represents worldwide excellence in the introduction of new biotechnology products characterized by significant cold chain requirements. The market context is characterized by high flexibility and reactivity to sudden changes in demand and supply. Today, the ambition for pharmaceutical supply chains is to increase the collaboration with vendors that have the ability to fulfill these requirements, while keeping innovating for future solutions.”
